The Fine Art of Submission: Submitting, Publishing and Marketing Your Erotic Fiction
Six weekly classes: May 5-June 9
Do you have a handful of erotic stories that you think are ready for publication, but aren’t sure how to make that leap from private author to published author? This six-week class will guide you through the submission process, from finding the right markets for your work and creating fantastic cover letters, to keeping track of submissions, working with editors and understanding contracts.
This class won’t teach you how to write erotica, but it will teach you how to present it to the world, offering the “package” that editors are looking for, and greatly increases your chances of getting that coveted “yes!” from publishers.
During this six-week class, weekly lessons will provide inspiration and ideas, exercises, suggestions for stretching your boundaries, and tips for improving your stories and your craft. We’ll also look at publication options and opportunities. Because we’ll be walking through erotica writing — starting with ideas and inspirations, progressing through characters and plots, and finalizing with getting those stories written, edited and sent off — you’ll be doing more than just learning. You’ll be accomplishing. Students will leave class with a number of story starts and ideas, half a dozen drafts, and at least one finished, ready-to-submit story.
For weekly assignments, you’ll be preparing actual cover letters, creating a tracking system and sending out your stories. Along the way, I’ll provide feedback and critiques to help you improve your process and system. I’ll also be offering guidance, answering any questions that come up.
What do you need? You need a desire to have your erotic fiction out there in the world and the willingness to take the risk of submitting it in order to get results. You must be able to use WordPress (you don’t need your own blog — you just need to be able to comment on this one) and you must be able to use Word documents. Ideally, you will also provide me with a short bio and a photo of you (or something that represents you) so that I and the other students can get to know you. Lastly, just like in a real class, you must agree not to share the lessons or the work of other students with anyone outside the class.
How Will You Learn? Classes will be ‘taught’ via the blog and email. Assignments will be posted each week, with additional tricks and suggestions posted during the week. You will receive guided feedback on your progress from myself. Class will be capped at eight students, to create a class size that allows the most interaction, feedback and personal attention for each student.
Cost: $175
